FAQ

Q: How do you apply to adopt a dog?
A: Please head to Foster and Adopt page to find out all the information on the process and required forms to be completed

Q: I can’t locate your adoption application form, do you have a direct link to complete the form?
A:
Yes, click here to direct you straight to our adoption application form, it will open up into a new window

Q: I have applied for a dog, but another has come available which also sounds perfect for our home. Can we apply for this dog as well?
A: Yes, absolutely. If you have a pending application with one dog but another becomes available that you would like to apply for, you will just need to either send an email to fbsapplications@gmail.com or complete the short form by clicking here. Please remember that each application should be adapted to the dog you have applied for. Please avoid using the same email for each dog as your application will probably be overlooked.

Q: We are looking to help by fostering, how long does the dog stay with you in foster?
A: Foster period can average between 7-14 days, its dependent on the dog, what medical or behavioural care that’s required.

Q: Is there a separate foster form to be completed?
A: Yes, the foster application form is different to the adoption form. Click here to direct you to the form.

Q: There is a dog that has just been posted on your Facebook page, but its states no applications or PM’s. Can you explain why we cannot apply?
A: When a dog is introduced they have only just arrived into foster care, we have limited information on the dog other than what was provided by the owner. Until the dog has been assessed in foster care we do not accept applications, we need to learn what forever home would be suited for them, likes and dislikes, treat any medical conditions etc. We ask for no PM’s also as the admin team are inundated with questions about the dog which at the time we may not know.

Q: How long does it take until you find out if you have been successful or not for a dog you have applied for?
A: This is quite a common question we get asked, but unfortunately there is no real set time frame. Every application is read by the home selecting team, so for example a dog could have 80 applications. Those 80 applications will be read through and a shortlist (anything between 3-5 homes) are chosen. From there we organise homechecks for those shortlisted. Once we have chosen the forever home, we will notify those not successful via email.

Q: If I foster a dog, can we adopt the dog?
A: All of our dogs will go up for adoption, unless we feel that its in the dogs best interest to stay put. Fostering isn’t for everyone so please take the time to consider before applying, fostering is not a short cut to adopt a dog.

Q: Do you need to be home 24/7 to be eligible to foster?
A: This is dependent on the dog, if we know the dog has separation issues, we will place the dog in a home where they are not left or have the ability to work with the dog and their issues. In the long run, if the dog is fine to be left for short periods ideally we will look for a foster home that can continue this.

Q: Do we need to be homechecked to be able to apply for a dog?
A: No, not having a homecheck will not affect your application (it would be an impossible task to homecheck every single application we receive). We carry out homechecks if you have been shortlisted for a dog or applying to foster.

Q: What is a road train?
A: A road train is where we need help moving a dog from one home to another. This can either be from the surrender home to foster home, Or moving a dog between foster homes so they are closer to our specialist vets for medical treatment. If you would like to be involved and help with a road train, you will need to complete our confidentiality form.
